Coliseum Street Elementary
Fall 2020 - Starting on-line
In August, 2020, we provided 225 students in 10 classrooms with school supplies to begin their academic year with on-line learning. This was a unique situation that required unique solutions. Based on their experiences during the Spring of 2020, our teachers requested crates for each student to store their school supplies in while at home.
Along with basic back to school needs, like pencils, markers and writing notebooks, they requested small dry erase boards to see the students work more clearly on-line. In addition, they requested jump ropes so students could exercise more easily at home. We will continue to help Coliseum Elementary as they continue to pivot to best meet the needs of their students.
Recently, we packed 225 bags filled with Halloween candy and treats for Coliseum Elementary's socially distanced Halloween parade!
We asked the teachers to provide us with a wishlist of things they'd like for their classroom, school and students. The overwhelming request was for new laptops for the educators. Working remotely has made them very dependent on their technology and slower, inoperable laptops make that task more challenging then it should be.
Level UP LA was able to help Coliseum Street Elementary with the purchase of 12 new laptops for their teachers.
Back to School
In April Coliseum was given the thumbs up to go back to school. Level Up LA asked the teachers of the school what materials they needed to make the transition from online learning to in-person as smooth as possible. With the items the teachers needed we packed them into crates and delivered them on April 17 and they were ready to open on the 20th. We also had the pleasure of meeting the Superintendent of Los Angeles, Austin Butner.
In March we organized a farmers market stand to help raise money for the Level Up Los Angeles cause. We were in the farmer's market for 6 hours selling tote bags and spreading the word of Level Up LA and we ended up reaching our goal of raising 1000 dollars for the day.
End of the Year Celebration!
To celebrate the end to a great but challenging year we decided to bring the party to Coliseum. We had fun with limbo and eating cold popsicles. We all had loads of fun and we can't wait for another great year. This summer we created a plan to keep the kids engaged with school while being able to enjoy their summer by getting them educational but fun books to read for their classes. We are very excited to continue working with the teachers of Coliseum through the summer and years to come!
Valentine's Day Goodies
In February we packed goodie bags with Abi's Animals' stuffed animals, candies, and other little toys. We had the pleasure of hand delivering them to the school.
